About Summit Public Schools
Summit places its youngest students in two primary centers before the neighborhood elementary stage. The primary centers at Jefferson and Wilson serve preschool and kindergarten populations. Children then move into one of five elementary schools—Brayton, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln-Hubbard, or Washington—for grades one through five.
The repeated Jefferson name can cause confusion. Jefferson Primary Center and Jefferson Elementary represent different grade stages, even though they are associated with the same location. A kindergarten placement at a primary center does not remove the need to confirm the grade-one elementary assignment. All five elementary communities merge at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School for grades six through eight and then enter Summit High School. Summit’s main structural distinction occurs at the start of formal elementary school: primary-center placement and the grades 1–5 neighborhood route are separate enrollment questions.
