Bergenfield Public School District Calendar 2026-2027

Bergenfield uses a compact, single-municipality ladder: five elementary schools feed Roy W. Brown Middle School, and the entire borough then continues to Bergenfield High School. The first full merger occurs in sixth grade. By ninth grade, most students already know peers from every elementary attendance area, so the high-school transition changes the academic scale more than the geographic structure.

The meaningful branching happens inside Bergenfield High School. Its STEM Program is not an open course label attached to every student. Applicants are reviewed through academic criteria, teacher recommendation, and an interview before entering a small accelerated cohort with a four-year research component. Career and technical pathways in Health Science and Business Management and Administration offer another organized route, while the Ninth Grade Academy supports the common freshman transition.

This distinction matters when families compare “programs” with school assignment. Every resident follows the same basic secondary destination, but a specialized schedule may depend on a separate selection process. The result is a simple feeder map and a more complex high-school interior: address determines the elementary school, the borough combines at Roy W. Brown, and later opportunities are shaped increasingly by application, course sequence, and student interest rather than by a second attendance boundary.
