Hackensack Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Hackensack residents begin with the Early Childhood Development Center or one of four elementary schools, then the citywide sequence consolidates at Hackensack Middle School for grades five through eight. Hackensack High School follows in grade nine. The first major merger occurs earlier than in a conventional 6–8 middle-school system: fifth graders already leave the K–4 branches and enter the common secondary pipeline.

The high school serves more than Hackensack itself. Rochelle Park sends students to Hackensack High School for grades nine through twelve, and South Hackensack also maintains a high-school sending relationship, including transportation information for its students. These teenagers complete the earlier grades under their own local districts and join Hackensack only at the high-school stage.

This arrangement broadens the high-school student body without creating a separate regional high-school board. Hackensack Public Schools still governs the campus, while the sending communities retain responsibility for their local earlier grades. The route depends on municipality: Hackensack residents move through the district from early childhood onward, whereas sending-district students experience a governance, calendar, registration, and transportation change at grade nine.
