Newark Public School District Calendar 2026-2027

Newark organizes enrollment through a citywide platform that spans district schools and participating charter schools. Newark Enrolls allows families to search schools by ward, grade span, school type, and services, and it includes Newark Public Schools alongside participating charter schools. Residence still matters through Newark-resident priority and school-specific rules, but a nearby building is not the only possible route.

The system also separates ordinary placement from selective admission. Comprehensive schools such as East Side operate within the broader enrollment network, while schools and programs such as Bard Early College, American History High School, and other magnet options use additional academic criteria, testing, interviews, or application materials. A ranked request through the common platform still leaves those extra requirements to be completed.

Prekindergarten enters through Newark Enrolls as well, with its own age, program rules, and matching process. A Newark student may encounter the same central platform at several points but follow very different decision processes: early-childhood placement, a regular district or participating charter request, and a selective secondary application. The platform connects the routes; it does not make every school equally accessible or governed in the same way.
