About Princeton Public Schools
Princeton’s resident route is compact: four elementary schools serve kindergarten through grade five, followed by Princeton Middle School for grades six through eight and Princeton High School for grades nine through twelve. The elementary assignment depends on the home address, but the district becomes citywide at the middle-school transition.
The high-school population is broader than Princeton residents alone. Cranbury operates a separate K–8 district and sends its students to Princeton High beginning in grade nine. For a Princeton eighth grader, high school is an internal progression; for a Cranbury student, the same move changes the governing district, registration contacts, calendar, course-selection system, and transportation arrangements.
The relationship also appears in governance. Cranbury has a sending-district representative who may vote on matters affecting its students and the regional arrangement, but that representative is not a full Princeton board member on every issue. Princeton High is one school reached through two different earlier-grade systems.
