About Teaneck Public Schools
Teaneck’s early-grade network uses several configurations. Bryant School and Theodora Smiley Lacey School house early-childhood programs, with Lacey also serving kindergarten. Hawthorne, Lowell, and Whittier serve kindergarten through grade four. A child completing kindergarten at Lacey must change buildings for grade one, while children beginning at one of the K–4 schools can remain through fourth grade.
At grade five, students enter either Benjamin Franklin Middle School or Thomas Jefferson Middle School, both organized for grades five through eight. The middle-school assignment remains tied to the residence; the district does not merge every student into one campus at that transition.
Both middle-school populations continue to Teaneck High School for grades nine through twelve. Early-childhood placement, the K–4 or grade-one elementary route, and the 5–8 middle-school zone should be confirmed separately. Teaneck’s unusual feature is the extra transition created for some kindergarten students before the ordinary middle-school boundary.
