Public Schools of Edison Township Calendar 2026-2027

Edison Township Public Schools is a large, address-based system with about 17,000 students across twenty schools. Its secondary map ends in two comprehensive high schools, Edison High School and J. P. Stevens High School, so a township address continues to matter well beyond the elementary years. The district is not one citywide ladder that merges everyone before grade nine.

The elementary level is also less uniform than a simple list of K–5 schools suggests. James Madison Primary School serves the early elementary grades, and James Madison Intermediate School continues the same local sequence for grades three through five. That paired arrangement means some children change buildings within elementary school before they reach middle school. Other attendance areas use different buildings, so the current assignment result matters more than a townshipwide formula.

Edison also has an application route that begins at kindergarten. The Dual Language Academy is housed at Washington Elementary School, and any child registered in Edison who is entering kindergarten may apply. Its admissions process is separate from ordinary neighborhood assignment and can establish a distinct instructional route from the first year of school.

High-school entry adds two more application-based routes. Edison High School operates the STEM Academy, with its own admissions process and a mandatory summer program for incoming freshmen. J. P. Stevens High School hosts the Biomedical Science Academy, which publishes a separate application and admissions process. The presence of an academy at each high school does not establish open enrollment or prove that every applicant may cross the ordinary high-school boundary; current eligibility and placement rules must be checked with the district. Most students continue along their assigned elementary, middle, and high-school path, while a smaller group enters specialized programs at kindergarten or before grade nine.
